We have embraced the opportunities this site has to offer, with the sites mature trees, and sought to further enhance its potential to become a vibrant and desirable mixed-use precinct. Two distinct residential blocks are united by a central courtyard, creating a harmonious and interconnected community. Our design philosophy prioritizes longevity, ensuring the precinct’s economic, environmental, and social sustainability for our lifetime and generations to come.

A contemporary warehouse, to house the workplace of the future. The form and materiality of the towers draws inspiration from the precincts' rich industrial past.

Furtado Sullivan has won a design competition for two commercial office towers for Mirvac, located at Sydney’s Green Square. The typical office floor has a simple geometry featuring a side core and large clear floorplate to accommodate a variety of commercial opportunities. This arrangement offers structural stability, good circulation and servicing, and optimises the amount of floorplate with outlook and natural light. A diversity of spaces within the tower have been created beyond the typical floorplate. The sawtooth roof creates a unique silhouette within the local skyline.

Tapered tower levels with cut back floor plates and inter-floor connectivity to the top of the tower, create a unique sense of a ‘warehouse in the sky’. These levels balance productivity and celebrate working in the city.

Creating an identifiable silhouette that is imbued with character and is experienced from within the building, within the city and in the skyline.

Furtado Sullivan was invited to compete in a design excellence competition for the worlds tallest timber hybrid tower. The site at the corner of Hunter and Pitt is adjacent to the future Hunter St Metro station, in the heart of Sydney. We wanted this project to hold a sense of humanity, to elevate the physical experience and bring an indigenous soul to this significant part of the city. We believe tall buildings can offer all of this, and we welcomed the opportunity to design with a deep sense of belonging, of place and, in this process meet the aspirations Milligan Group has for this site.

Our tower proposal is a place inspired by Sydney’s rich history and local environment; a place for gathering, dialogue, recreation, and enjoyment, a place that leads the way for how we all want to work and live in the future. The tower facilitates social exchange, by creating a diversity of communal break out areas and spaces that can ‘breathe’ at different stratum of the tower. An active public domain is achieved by maximising visual and physical connectivity to the metro, and elevating the commercial lobby to maximise ground floor retail. The journey of arrival is bathed in natural light, landscape and the enveloping scent of timber.

We built a design narrative around the climate of southern Queensland and the potential lifestyle opportunities this climate brings. We were inspired by the verandah of the traditional Queenslander house, and used it as a design driver. Our reinterpretation of home, in an apartment context, maximises outlook, openness and natural ventilation, while protecting from the often-harsh sun. Balancing warmth and lightness, we created an open and inviting apartment interior.

Furtado Sullivan were engaged to peer review a proposal for a large TOD mixed-use precinct in Brisbane and prepare an alternative concept proposal which required the rationalisation of the current design including improving the planning of the overall scheme, incorporating additional retail at the lower levels, and resolving a highly complex public realm across three different levels.

A building that prioritises an informal relaxed style of living, a place to feel at ease, unwind and enjoy the simple pleasures of everyday life. Opening onto Kooka Walk, upon arrival one is enveloped in the landscape. Living spaces incorporate bespoke furniture design, cosy seating window bays, natural materials and a mix of textures to create a warm ambience.

Furtado Sullivan was invited to participate in a design excellence competition to provide a vision for one of the final stages of Ashmore Estate, located in Erskineville fronting Mitchell Road and directly opposite a low rise heritage conservation area. In our approach, we have embraced the opportunities the site has to offer and sought to further enhance its potential to become a vibrant and desirable urban precinct, to drive the commercial success of the BRT offer and create a unique experience within Erskineville. The Eastern and Western edges of the site are set in and allow a generous landscape zone, establishing a soft landscape edge to the street. To the North, a colonnade opens up the northern facade to the parkland while embracing the pedestrians that choose to dwell. Above, residents look upon McPherson Park from the different amenities located on upper ground and level one. A key feature of the design is the establishment of a lane that helps further break down the build form of the precinct as it transitions from low scale terraces to medium density housing.

A generosity of space at ground to arrive, pass by or come together, Green Square Plaza is designed to extend into a protected outdoor room, a place that extends the illumination of the library, in both the day and night.

We considered the occupants’ daily routine and promoted serendipitous encounters, which are crucial for fostering good, safe, and socially engaging places for all residents. The overarching aim was to design a place of well-being that revolves around people and community, promoting communication and social exchange.

Furtado Sullivan participated in a design excellence competition for a new precinct on the old Ausgrid site in Zetland. We are working at both urban and human scales to ensure that each new building integrated harmoniously with the broader context. We collaborated with Curious Practice on the precinct vision imbuing each building with common themes, materials and datum references. Our collective approach was informed by a focus on the area’s history and natural environment, which are being leveraged to craft a unique narrative for the community.

Apartment living with a focus on biophillic design. Cascading landscape terraces provide both aspect and refuge from within creating a sense of tranquillity and happiness by being exposed to natural elements, such as greenery, sunlight and natural materials.

These residential and hotel buildings are unified by a unique facade language and rhythm. A sawtooth strategy resolves the street’s angled geometry, maximises internal floor plate efficiency and creates an elegant, sculptured built form. The residential block uses masonry and deep revels to create a sense of privacy and shields from the western sun. The hotel volume, rich and golden in colour, is highly transparent, providing warmth while inviting guests to engage and experience the street life beyond.

This development is located on a prominent corner site in Surry Hills, right at the bottom of Reservoir Street. The project is a single development broken down into two buildings: a boutique hotel with circa 50 rooms and residential component with 42 apartments.

An arrival experience that references the the sites origins, a rich native landscape and stream. The arrival takes you off the city street, and draws you up the tower with the scent of natural timbers and green landscape.

Lavish gardens and warm materials textures envelope the senses and evokes a connection back to nature, in ones every day’s experience of coming to work. A rammed earth wall made of sediments from the site signifies the depth of history of the site.

Furtado Sullivan were invited to participate in the design competition for Mirvac’s new 54 story high-rise tower in Sydney’s CBD including 70,000m2 of office floor, ground level retail uses, and surrounding public realm. The design brief called for a sustainable, future focused, premium grade workplace that respected its place, a project which combined identity and context in a unique way.

A landscape gesture incorporating cascading planting from the outside to the inside, from the entry to the upper lobby levels; a journey that is celebrated from the street and engaging as you move through from space to space. The transparency of the lower podium levels animates the street further and invites the public inside.

The staggered podium façade reads as a densely textured sandstone wall from the south; and from the north a glazed facade with outlook to Circular Quay, the Warrane.

An ordered and elegantly proportioned facade is the towers’ primary expression to the War Memorial. The recessed facade reduces glass reflection and allows residential life to happen beyond this line, providing residents with a sense of privacy from the street while still opening to the wonderful views. The facade unifies the tower and podium further calming the streetscape.

Positioned with uninterrupted northerly aspect views over Hyde Park and the city, our site offers the potential to transform the south-eastern part of the Sydney CBD, to ‘stitch’ the city core to its lively suburbs to the south and, doing so, revitalise a city quarter that feels disconnected from its surroundings.

The highly sculpted and dynamic podium responds to its surroundings by changing the form and scale of the tower and the pixels. A small gathering place – a market square of a kind – was proposed to enliven the block beyond its edges and mark the start of Macquarie Street as an active retail edge.

Furtado Sullivan was invited by Deicorp to participate on a design competition for a new mixed-use precinct on the edge of Parramatta’s CDB, right opposite James Ruse Reserve. Our approach was to create two distinctive residential towers that spoke to its unique locale and community. Through a series of urban moves, the towers were brought together creating more separation to neighbouring sites and improve amenity for residents.

The hotel lobby is lush and inviting. Through the use of light, shade, texture and rich materials one is drawn into a world of luxury. A hidden pool borrows light from above as the light penetrates into the subterranean spa, cut into rock.

The ‘Public Room’ is the threshold between the public street and the formality of the tower. The room has a generosity of volume, with views to surrounding streets, extensive landscape, natural materials, and breathable façade. This breathable room, takes on the rhythm of the city streets but with greater intimacy and calm. It is animated with the morning sun, during the early morning office bustle and breakfast routines, casual meetings, events, gatherings, places of retreat during the day, and in the afternoon and evenings it serves as a place to relax or for events to be held.

A building entry with a unique identity knitted into the precinct fabric. Generous in scale, the lobby is immersed in the ‘hanging swamp’, offering outdoor seating and offer views across to the water. Internally, it is designed to be flexible as well as a vibrant and active place, connected to the tower, accessible to all.

Furtado Sullivan and DKO won a design excellence competition for St. Hilliers new mixed-use precinct in the centre of Gosford. The proposal envisaged a collection of buildings that spoke to context and culture – modern Artefacts, each unique to its place and function, forming a strong urban composition placed on a vibrant ground plane. Three distinct buildings, each with its individual identity - an urban ensemble rooted in place.

The built form is sculpted to respond to the neighbouring context. The southern corner is cut back at ground to provide a sheltered access to the hotel and residential entries. These gestures humanise Reservoir street, giving the footpath greater depth, increasing outdoor seating and increase activation on the street.

Furtado Sullivan was invited to participate in a design excellence competition to provide a vision for one of the final stages of Ashmore Estate, located in Erskineville fronting Mitchell Road and directly opposite a low rise heritage conservation area. In our approach, we have embraced the opportunities the site has to offer and sought to further enhance its potential to become a vibrant and desirable urban precinct, to drive the commercial success of the BRT offer and create a unique experience within Erskineville. The Eastern and Western edges of the site are set in and allow a generous landscape zone, establishing a soft landscape edge to the street. To the North, a colonnade opens up the northern facade to the parkland while embracing the pedestrians that choose to dwell. Above, residents look upon McPherson Park from the different amenities located on upper ground and level one. A key feature of the design is the establishment of a lane that helps further break down the build form of the precinct as it transitions from low scale terraces to medium density housing.

This is not the usual one size fits all outcome of large-scale mixed-use projects. Instead nuance and difference have been allowed to thrive. Stepped terraces on the top of the towers give premium apartments greater outdoor amenity while creating a playful skyline experienced from the park and from different points around the city.

Furtado Sullivan was invited by Deicorp to participate on a design competition for a new mixed-use precinct on the edge of Parramatta’s CDB, right opposite James Ruse Reserve. Our approach was to create two distinctive residential towers that spoke to its unique locale and community. Through a series of urban moves, the towers were brought together creating more separation to neighbouring sites and improve amenity for residents.

The towers’ pure form is given detail and depth by the subtle gesture of facade shading which changes gradually depending on the orientation and outlook. The towers represent calm in a rising city of towers often competing for attention.

From the civic park address on Liverpool St, the ground plane falls to a secluded community garden. Through the manipulation of the levels we create a folded ground plane and an elevated garden.

Positioned with uninterrupted northerly aspect views over Hyde Park and the city, our site offers the potential to transform the south-eastern part of the Sydney CBD, to ‘stitch’ the city core to its lively suburbs to the south and, doing so, revitalise a city quarter that feels disconnected from its surroundings.

The sound of water follows one’s movement along the laneway, reminding us of the nearby Tank Stream and its historic and cultural significance.

The revitalised laneway is animated with retail along its full length, creating a constant stream of movement and opportunities to gather and reflect.

Furtado Sullivan were invited to participate in the design competition for Mirvac’s new 54 story high-rise tower in Sydney’s CBD including 70,000m2 of office floor, ground level retail uses, and surrounding public realm. The design brief called for a sustainable, future focused, premium grade workplace that respected its place, a project which combined identity and context in a unique way.

We have created a permeable precinct that offers direct and clear journeys and sightlines, guiding users and visitors at all times of the day. By adjusting the laneway and simplifying its geometry, we achieve a stronger visual and physical connection from Mann Street through the precinct to Baker Street.

Furtado Sullivan and DKO won a design excellence competition for St. Hilliers new mixed-use precinct in the centre of Gosford. The proposal envisaged a collection of buildings that spoke to context and culture – modern Artefacts, each unique to its place and function, forming a strong urban composition placed on a vibrant ground plane. Three distinct buildings, each with its individual identity - an urban ensemble rooted in place.

A pair of towers are careful sited to open out to the view, with a series of facade typologies that allows for both privacy and openness. Upon arrival to each level one experiences a highly permeable, naturally ventilated lobby, with an outlook, frame by an internal lobby landscape. This openness and permeable extends to the ground plane, to improve pedestrian connectivity and along those movement paths maximised retail frontage.

Furtado Sullivan were engaged to peer review a proposal for a large TOD mixed-use precinct in Brisbane and prepare an alternative concept proposal which required the rationalisation of the current design including improving the planning of the overall scheme, incorporating additional retail at the lower levels, and resolving a highly complex public realm across three different levels.

The towers pixilated facade, creates a pure form at the top of tower, and as it cascades to ground, the form further pixilates. The pixelated facade creates a human scale experience at ground. Large expanses of vertical landscape through the tower cool the air, and the species selection bloom to celebrate the various seasons.

The One Circular Quay Hotel is a 220-luxury hotel in Sydney’s prime CBD location. Originally planned for a specific hotel operator, Furtado Sullivan were engaged as Design consultants guiding the hotels architecture and interiors design concept, development and refinement alongside Kengo Kuma and Crone.

Nearby hills, ridgelines and sinuous waterways provide abundant inspiration for the form of the residential tower. Its corner location on the site enables the tower to emerge from the ground, removing any aspect of anonymity and fostering a sense of identity for residents. Elegant yet playful, the building’s curved balconies frame the view for those relaxing or entertaining within. These balconies form a series of scallops along the southern façade which becomes a signature aspect of the building.

Furtado Sullivan developed a retail precinct proposal for Woolworths, where landscape is seamlessly integrated into daily life, enriching every moment with its natural beauty and inviting tranquillity. We have embraced the opportunities this site has to offer, with the sites mature trees, and sought to further enhance its potential to become a vibrant and desirable mixed-use precinct. Two distinct residential blocks are united by a central courtyard, creating a harmonious and interconnected community. Our design philosophy prioritizes longevity, ensuring the precinct’s economic, environmental, and social sustainability for our lifetime and generations to come.
